The name Blue Shadow comes from the idea that depression is much more than just 'feeling  blue'. These negative thoughts and emotions, which sometimes feel bigger, sometimes smaller, are always with you, like a shadow.

1 in 4 adults in the UK will experience at least one diagnosable mental health issue each year, and this is the largest single cause of disability in the UK.

Mental Health First Aid training is not just for the 1 in 4!

I have met many people from different backgrounds and cultures, with different life experiences, yet the one thing we all have in common is mental health, in the same way that we all have physical health, and we need to understand how to look after it.

We should also be able to talk freely about mental health and seek support whenever we need it. Feelings of shame and the reactions of people around us can make problems more difficult to deal with, so understanding how to approach and assist someone who is experiencing a mental health issue could literally change their life.

Improving knowledge and understanding by training people in mental health awareness and skills will help to achieve the goal of putting mental health on an equal footing to physical health in the UK.

This is my passion and the reason I set up Blue Shadow.

Welcome, my name is Stewart. I am the Director of Blue Shadow and an Instructor Member of Mental Health First Aid England.

I have worked in a number of different industries, including Retail Banking, IT, Logistics and Recruitment.

I recently stepped away from my role as a project manager to safeguard my own mental health and concentrate on my passion for raising mental health awareness.
